Lucas 7th Birthday Party

Yep, I made this one. It was a much better idea in my head. I still don't like that the letters did not turn out how I had imagined but Lucas said it was great so apparently it was good enough to pass there.

I can't even believe that I am writing this post. We had Lucas 7th birthday party this afternoon. It is so hard to believe that he is 7. That he will be in the 2nd grade in a few short weeks. Well I am sure I will be saying that for years to come but for some reason 7 seems very old to me now!!Lucas was so happy with every gift he got because now he can get his Nintendo DS. Yeah, he saved up all his money this winter to get one and finally had enough to get it and then it was smashed in the car seat. We made him work for the first one and have every intention of making him work for the second one. Jeremy reminded me that it was going to be a tough life lesson for him but the only choice we had. I felt bad because I was not sure it was all his fault it was smashed but that is another saga and in the end we went with the life lesson choice. Well today that lesson may have been less impact full as he was given the money to get another one but he has gone on and on and on and on all night about how he is going make sure it is in the case at all time, about how he can't believe he is really going to get it on Thursday about how he can't believe he has enough money about how he does not have to pull weeds for a penny a piece this week about how he is so happy we had a party so people could come about a million other things that my brain has blocked out. He now plans on taking his surf n slide to the lake with him when he and Grandma Jan go fishing on the jet ski so when it is not his turn he can surf and slide at the lake and then when he is board he can do his DS. Overload anyone? Yeah, I would pretty much say everything was a hit. Everything has now been opened and cherished and all put away in his room. Thank you everyone for everything. I have the thank you cards out and really hope to get that done this week.
We had all the ball park favorites: hot dogs, brats, nachos, pretzels, peanuts and cracker jacks. We threw in a few trick candles for him to blow out and all the kids got to join in and try to blow then out. I have to say this may be my last year to use them for him because Taralyn noticed that they crackled when you lit them and the others did not. I guess 8 years old are a bit more insightful!! Oh no, I better enjoy 7!
After the food, cake, ice cream and presents we headed outside for a water balloon toss. Since we already had water out I decided to get out the surf n slide. Well we needed it to be set up differently for it to work correctly, I guess that they really want you to watch that DVD they put in the package. We ended turning it into a regular slip in slide. It worked out better for the little kids. Hunter really got into it. Addi-not so much. Lucas, yeah loved every second.

Happy Birthday Lucas!!!!! I can't believe he's 7 already either! Seems just like yesterday he was so little and we were asking HIM how to buckle his darn car seat (stupid buckles!). Anyways the party looks like it was so fun!!!!! Great job on the cake by the way. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!! Watch for your mail because he'll have some more $ to contribute to his DS replacement. Stinks to learn life lessons especially to have to teach them as a parent. I'm dreading that part.

We sure miss you guys!
