Blueberry Confessions

Mom you want to close your ears for this one. Last night after work I took the kids with my mom and headed out to the blueberry patch. This is something that I thought was a thing of the past, something I left behind in my childhood. I truly only went because my mom asked me to go. Heading to the blueberry patch does not bring happy memories. It bring memories of sweat and bucking spilling and thinking my skin was on fire from all the grass rubbing on my legs. I went in it with the best attitude I could have. I did not want to let on to the kids that I hate, or should I say strongly despise picking blueberries.
We pick up our buckets and head out to the patch. I say to myself, hey this is not as bad as I remember. I vividly remember a fifty mile journey on the dirt road to get the to patch just so you could pick. They still had the stupid itchy twine to tie around your waste to keep the bucket at a normal level on your body. Lucas initially opted for the twine but quickly took it off. I came close to darting just upon its sight. Lucas complained the entire way to the patch. I can no longer remember exactly what his issues were but I do recall thinking-EXACTLY. EXACTLY.

I could not agree with you more. Man, he is my kid. We get to the patch pick our row and it hits me like a ton of bricks. This is not easy. This is one or twelve berries per bush. Arrrrr. What is wrong with the ones at the store. Addi is doing well and on about bush two figures out she can eat what she picks. Yummy.
At about bush five Addi figures out that she is in a field and can go any direction she wishes and it is almost impossible for me to find her without running up and down and in between the rows. Lovely, just lovely.
Why can they not all turn "blue" at the same time. Look five berries for my bucket.

Lucas finds a few bushes with a lot of ripe berries so he is good for a bit. I am starting to get hot and sweaty. A nice worker told us we could move over and pick in the shade. The kids and I lasted for a few minutes over there but we reached our done point at the same time.
I happily gave in and headed over to the play place.
Grandma Ann where are you??Please, please make it end.

I want the kids to have wonderful experiences and have no plans of sharing my distaste for the berry patch but hope next year my berry picking is confide to the ones in little plastic containers and not large plastic buckets!!!
