2nd Grade

Today was Lucas first day of 2nd Grade. He was not nearly as excited as I thought he would be this morning but was happy to get up and around. He did remind me that this really is not his first day of 2nd grade because he did 2nd grade summer school and all. I tried to get him to wear a new outfit, you know one of the ten that we bought for back to school. That was fruitless. He told me it was more "his style" to wear his regular old clothes from his dresser. Whatever, just put something on. Who needs all that stress on the first day anyway. I figured he would wear the new shirt he has been bugging me about for the last month since we bought it but he wants to wait for a really special day to wear it, maybe Friday he said. Hun??? I just shook my head and thought of clawing out my eyeballs with the thought of these conversations with Addi in a few years.

I was going to make pancakes and eggs for breakfast, as a special treat but that was shot once Lucas begged to have Eggo waffles and a yogurt cup. Yeah, sure why not-after all it is his first day.

Lucas was very anxious for the bus, it was late, as we had prepared him. I offered to take him but he was not excited about that option. He reminded me he was not in 1st grade and could wait for the bus. When I told him I could go to the school and take a picture of him with his teacher like I have in the past he almost freaked out. All was saved when I said, it is not a big deal if you don't want it. All as I shed a tear inside that he was no longer a little guy. Hey, when did 7 become not little?

Here are a few pictures of our morning:

Here is Addi chasing after the bus. Yeah, it was too much for her to watch Lucas ride on the bus and her have no where to go. I spared you from the melt down that followed. Oh, in a few short years you too will get to ride the bus Addi Jo. Don't rush it.

All in all it was a great day. Lucas said they did not learn anything today but he knows where everything goes in the room so hopefully tomorrow they can learn something. I guess the right attitude about the year ahead is all we can ask for. I wish you the best year yet Lucas. 2nd grade was big year for me, a lot of things happened in my life and I hope yours is not nearly as eventful and full of wonder memories.
