Pre-season

Football season has officially begun for Lucas. This is our first year of tackle football so there are a lot of things up in the air as far as what to expect. The boys expect to go undefeated like last year but they are struggling with certain tackle items like learning how to get the other guy down to the ground, not holding onto the jersey, jammed fingers, getting out of their stance quickly and so on. I think they are doing great from starting fresh. Saturday was our first test of just how well they were catching on compared to other teams. We are happy to say, we are great. If we can keep on this pace there should be some pretty awesome posts in the weekends to come.

This year we are going to do more playing on high school fields which the boys really like but stinks for taking pictures. Saturday we played at a local high school field and it was weird to be that far away, but of coarse I can deal-I think there are many years of this ahead of me. It does make me feel better with Jeremy down there.

Yes, he is snapping at me. He wanted me to hurry so he could get down with his team.

Listening to Coach Harrison

Lucas and the quarterback, Matt Harrison after the game congratulating each other.

My attempt at a group picture. Lucas is #50. He is playing on the starting line for offense and comes in on defense. He plays the line on both sides.
I don't yet have a game schedule but as soon as I do I will let you know. It should be an exciting year. They did not keep score but if they did the Ray-Pec Panthers would have won 14-7. Good way to start!!

A more respectable cut

Well the summer is over and we are back to the business of school around here. One of the easiest ways to see this is by the hair cuts. Lucas is less then impressed his mohawk is gone but life will go on.

On a separate not 2nd grade is going great. Lucas is doing very well. His writing still needs some work in my book but his math skills are excellent and his ability to write a story is moving along nicely. He is a super speller, which obviously is something I am personally ecstatic about considering I can't spell worth a darn!! The entire phonics thing is just lost on me!!

Where boots?

It is a rainy night in KC. That is nice and a big bummer. Addi manager to find a couple cut out figures that she has been playing with. Lucas and I have been reading books and hanging out. All in all it has been a great night. The bummer-when Addi is not interested in what we are doing she heads back over to her cut outs and asks where boots?
In case you don't know boots is Dora the Explorers friends. I don't even know why we have these cut outs of Spongebob and Dora in the first place so I certainly have no clue as to why these have arrived or made it this long.
I ask you Internet friends, do you know where boots went? It is just not a nice game of hide-n-go seek he is playing if he is somewhere around here!!

2nd Grade

Today was Lucas first day of 2nd Grade. He was not nearly as excited as I thought he would be this morning but was happy to get up and around. He did remind me that this really is not his first day of 2nd grade because he did 2nd grade summer school and all. I tried to get him to wear a new outfit, you know one of the ten that we bought for back to school. That was fruitless. He told me it was more "his style" to wear his regular old clothes from his dresser. Whatever, just put something on. Who needs all that stress on the first day anyway. I figured he would wear the new shirt he has been bugging me about for the last month since we bought it but he wants to wait for a really special day to wear it, maybe Friday he said. Hun??? I just shook my head and thought of clawing out my eyeballs with the thought of these conversations with Addi in a few years.

I was going to make pancakes and eggs for breakfast, as a special treat but that was shot once Lucas begged to have Eggo waffles and a yogurt cup. Yeah, sure why not-after all it is his first day.

Lucas was very anxious for the bus, it was late, as we had prepared him. I offered to take him but he was not excited about that option. He reminded me he was not in 1st grade and could wait for the bus. When I told him I could go to the school and take a picture of him with his teacher like I have in the past he almost freaked out. All was saved when I said, it is not a big deal if you don't want it. All as I shed a tear inside that he was no longer a little guy. Hey, when did 7 become not little?

Here are a few pictures of our morning:

Lucas and Marissa waiting at the bus stop.

Here is Addi chasing after the bus. Yeah, it was too much for her to watch Lucas ride on the bus and her have no where to go. I spared you from the melt down that followed. Oh, in a few short years you too will get to ride the bus Addi Jo. Don't rush it.

All in all it was a great day. Lucas said they did not learn anything today but he knows where everything goes in the room so hopefully tomorrow they can learn something. I guess the right attitude about the year ahead is all we can ask for. I wish you the best year yet Lucas. 2nd grade was big year for me, a lot of things happened in my life and I hope yours is not nearly as eventful and full of wonder memories.

Cazy life

It has been so long since I have posted anything. It seems like forever. There were several times this week that I would think at 1 or 2 in the morning that I really should get out my computer and camera and get these things up there. Every night ,as you well know, I opted to stay in bed. Things have been crazy around here. School starts on Tuesday and I know that will give us the routine we need back so badly.
Lucas is so excited to start 2nd grade. We got to meet his teacher Thursday night. Not that I took pictures because well I was so busy with two tons of PTA things to do. She is super nice and is actually going to have a baby this year so that should be exciting. Lucas did a happy dance when his teacher letter came in the mail and it said Mrs. Roller!! Lucas is looking forward to writing his own stories this year, without any help on how to spell words and learning how to do fractions. Me on the other hand, not looking forward to the fractions. Thank goodness we have Jeremy!!
Addi is fully potty trained now, in regular underwear and everything. She still has her occasional accidents as she usually waits to long to climb onto the potty because of her clothing issues. you know, a girl can't wear a dress everyday. It is now a crisis to ask her to wear a pull up when we are going to be in the car for a long trip or to go to bed. I just can't face having to wash sheets and car seat liners if there is an accident.
Football rolls on, 3 nights a week. There is a park for Addi to play at during practice and she just loves to cheer them on. Lucas is sad they can't practice every night. I am hoping for uniforms to come back shortly and the league to publish our season schedule shortly.
Jeremy is now at Carter Energy and loving every day. Each day seems to be better than the last. I consider that pretty lucky.
Well Cheers, to more regular posts and a not so crazy life!! I think I am back in control of the schedule and the schedule is done controlling us. It was a hard battle but I finally concurred it and man does it feel good. It took getting sick to really get things back in line but here we go again.................after a melt down has to have something good come out of it!!
I should have some back to school pictures Tuesday evening. Tonight is the football picnic, post poned last night due to rain. yeah, so much for resting :)

True Royals FANS!

Last Sunday we had tickets to the Royals game. Oh how everyone loves the Royals games, win or loose. We won't waste our time on the loosing part here. Addi and Lucas were extra extra excited to go last Sunday as it was catcher's chest guard backpack day. Look did look pretty awesome and both kids were happy to receive their backpacks. Addi did not understand that every other child there also had a backpack when she gladly pointed hers out to them. Don't worry every time she walked away confused that they had the same one she did. Lucas is still trying to convince us that they should be worn on your chest, as they are on the catcher and not on ones back, but since they don't fit Jeremy or I, we gave up caring. Ah, parenting at its finest.
This could have been our last game of the season so I wanted to get a picture of the kids. As you can see, regardless of my attempts it never worked. Addi was far more interested in going inside for her back pack and checking out the fire trucks that had pulled up. It was also firefighter and police officer celebration day.

Yep, this is Addi solo shot. Lucas age 7. Can you believe it. We have been coming to Kauffman for 7 years with kids. In those 7 years I have seen more games in person then any other 7 years in my K.C. life.

Wasn't last Sunday hot you ask.....well yes it was. The low on Saturday night was about 80 so when we got to the stadium it was already over 90. Ahh, a great day to fry. As you can see it was already melting my camera. These were our seats. They told us they did not expect a huge crowd so we could take seats in the shade but no way Lucas was going to give up his prime seat.
Here is Addi, she actually just got done complaining that the seat was too hot to sit on.
In the end we did not make it through the game. We have promised at least one more game for the kids this season, one that will be cooler-maybe a night game.

Football Gear

Well this it, football has begun. Uniforms have been ordered, the roster completed, conditioning non contact practices completed and pads/helmet checked out. Here are a few pictures of Lucas from the day he received his "gear" He is loving every second of practice and asking why when school starts week it is such a big deal that we not practice every night. We have practice 3 nights a week and Addi and I voted that that is plenty!! Pre-season is the last Saturday of August and games start in September. We hope to be playing the first week of November.
Well, here is to a year of no injuries and tons of fun!
These are just the practice clothes. They are the Panthers, after the high school team so their uniforms will be white, gold and black.
Look at that face. Where did little Lucas go?
Yes, the purple mouth guard is in honor of K-State.

Skate party

Last Saturday night Lucas best buddy Marissa invited him to her 10th birthday party. It was at the skating rink. Roller skating is something Lucas had never done at a skating rink and skating is a skill Lucas has not yet mastered on his own with the skates that go over your shoes at home or his heeleys. Jeremy and I thought this could be interesting.
Lucas took to the skating rink like a pro. He did need a little help getting there, but I did not mind at all. He stayed pretty close to the wall but it was not long after that he was making his way closer and closer to the center.
Making his way around the ring.
Here Marissa and Lucas are having a good laugh.
Lucas even tried his luck with the limbo. Here is his first time trying it.
Oh yeah, and his first time getting out. Better luck next time.
Lucas asked if he could buy his own pair of roller skates-I think he fell in love. I told him we would come a few more times before we committed to buying our own roller skates. Hopefully there will not be any broken bones in our future!!

Where is the tooth fairy?

Today was the day, the day Lucas lost his first tooth. It happened in only true Lucas style.

We went to the pool this afternoon and we were there only a matter of minutes when we were playing around in the pool and Lucas announced his tooth fell out. He was holding it in his hand. He went to the bathroom to rinse out his mouth and I worried about where a safe place to store it at the pool could possible be. We made it home and have put it in the tooth fairy pillow.
Lucas is very excited for the tooth fairy to bring him dollars tonight. I am not sure how many dollars he is hoping for as he only stated.....dollars.
You can already see the permanent tooth coming up so I don't think he will have a hole very long. He was sort of bummed when I told him that but looking forward to loosing more teeth. He checked them all tonight after he brushed.

Hangin out

Here is Addi Jo hanging out at home.

Bella's party

Joe and Rachel came home for a couple of weeks from Hawaii. Yeah, could you imagine coming back from Hawaii?? Well Joe and Rachel are both Marines stationed in Hawaii and had Bella a year ago. We are so glad that they come home not only to see them but to see cute Bella. It is hard to believe but Bella is a year now!! Well officially on 8-8 but we will count it as a year. They had a party for her yesterday and we were able to go. I am so glad I got some pictures of her because it is funny to me that she looks so much like Joe only with blond hair!!
They had lots of games for the kids to play. Joe and Rachel were kind enough to demonstrate the water balloon toss for the kids.
Then the boys turned it into a water balloon fight.
There were potato sack races and Lucas won a slinky for taking first place. Amazing how that made his day.
There was lots of time for visiting. Visiting all the way around. Addi really loved Bella.
Bella may live in Hawaii but this was her first experience with sand. I see many trips to the beach in her future. She loved it!!
Here is the all important birthday cake photos. Bella really wasn't sure of the entire thing. She was even less sure of why everyone was standing around staring at her and the cake. She did get into the icing but never really loved the cake.
What a nice girl to share her cake with dad.

What a sweet girl!
Happy Birthday Bella
